📖 Stage Description
Porto, Portugal's second city and the starting point of the Camino da Costa, provides a majestic setting. The route departs from the Sé do Porto, winds through the Ribeira alleyways and follows the Atlantic coast northward via Matosinhos, known for its São Mateus church and lively seafront.
The route follows mainly the Atlantic coastline, between fine sandy beaches and pine forests. It passes through the seaside village of Mindelo and its protected dunes before reaching the delta of the Rio Ave.
Vila do Conde, the city of lacemaking and shipbuilding, concludes this first stage with its Santa Clara convent and many pilgrim accommodations.
