Arles › Col du Somport
The Via Tolosana (Arles Route) (Via Tolosana · GR®653) is the most southerly of the four great French routes to Compostela. It links Arles to the Col du Somport over 788 km in 31 stages, crossing Provence, Languedoc, Toulouse and the Ariège Pyrenees.
From Arles, the route crosses the Camargue then heads towards Saint-Gilles, Montpellier, Béziers, Carcassonne and Toulouse — dotted with Romanesque masterpieces. After Auch (the ancient capital of Gascony), it reaches Oloron-Sainte-Marie before climbing the Pyrenees via the Col du Somport (1,632 m) to enter Spanish Aragon.
This guide covers 31 stages from Arles, with interactive maps, elevation profiles and practical information for each day of walking.
