Via de la Plata

The Via de la Plata — or Iter ab Emerita Asturicam in Latin — is one of the oldest pilgrimage routes in Europe. It follows the ancient Roman road built in the 1st century BC to link Emerita Augusta (Mérida) to Asturica Augusta (Astorga). At 706 kilometres, it is also one of the most solitary and authentic routes of the Camino de Santiago.
