📖 Stage Description

A long stage that leaves Mérida by crossing the ancient Roman bridge over the Guadiana, then heads north. The village of Aljucén (km 18) offers a welcome break with its bar-restaurant and fountain.

The Visigothic chapel of Santa Lucía del Trampal (6th century) near Alcuéscar is worth a short detour of a few hundred metres. It is one of the most remarkable examples of Visigothic architecture in Extremadura.
