📖 Stage Description

The Via de la Plata — the ancient Roman road Iter ab Emerita Asturicam — begins in one of the most beautiful cities in Spain. You leave Seville through the Barrio de San Bernardo, skirt the bullring of the Real Maestranza, follow the Guadalquivir upstream, then plunge into the working-class streets of La Macarena. Green arrow waymarks guide you toward the northern outskirts.

The urban exit takes a good hour and a half. Then the whitewashed houses give way to the first olive groves and orange trees. The Sierra Norte de Sevilla emerges on the horizon. The air carries hints of rosemary and lavender. You are truly on your way.

Guillena, the first village on the route, has welcomed pilgrims for centuries at its municipal albergue. A bar terrace, a cold beer, feet under the table — the camino ritual begins.
