📖 Stage Description

This is one of the most mountainous stages of the Camino Portugués Central. Leaving Alcanena, the path climbs through the limestone hills of the Serra d'Aire, reaching 492 metres of altitude. The panoramas over the plains and the limestone massifs are spectacular.

The village of Caxarias, just a few kilometres from Fátima, signals the approach of the shrine. The path winds through pine and oak woods before descending into the Fátima basin.

Fátima, one of the most visited Catholic shrines in the world, opens its arms to pilgrims. The basilica, the Sanctuary of Cova da Iria and the unique atmosphere of this global pilgrimage site make this stage one of the most moving moments on the camino.
