📖 Stage Description
Pola de Allande is the starting point of the toughest stage in Asturias: 29 km including the formidable Puerto de Palo pass at 1,146 metres. The ascent is long and sustained, through heathland and birch forests.
The magnificent scenery of the high Cantabrian terrain rewards the effort. The descent toward the reservoir is spectacular, with sweeping views over the Grandas de Salime dam. Carry plenty of water and waterproof boots — the terrain can be extremely difficult in wet weather.
Grandas de Salime, a village perched above the reservoir, houses a remarkable ethnographic museum dedicated to traditional Asturian rural life. A truly memorable stage.
