📖 Stage Description

Leaving Beaumont, the path heads back into the forest before gradually swinging west. The Savoyard Genevois spreads out in a patchwork of lush hedgerow countryside, dotted with quickset hedges and ancient walnut trees. The opening hours of walking unfold in light filtered through the canopy, with regular glimpses of the pre-Alpine massifs receding along the eastern horizon.

Passing through the hamlets around Minzier reveals an authentic rural fabric where small family farms still hold their own. The traditional Savoyard farmhouses — with their broad overhanging rooflines and wooden galleries — speak of an architecture shaped by the demands of mountain winters.

The descent to the Usses is the dramatic centrepiece of this stage: the river has carved spectacular gorges here, their green depths visible from natural viewpoints along the path. The Usses joins the Rhône a few kilometres downstream at Seyssel, a historic crossing point between Savoie and the Bugey.

Frangy receives the pilgrim with the bustle of a market town — the canton seat, celebrated for its Roussette de Savoie white wine. The shaded central square is the perfect place to rest before continuing deeper into the Savoyard heartland.
