The path enters the Gers, a department of deep Gascony renowned for its gastronomy, its bastide towns and its peaceful hillside landscapes. The route crosses a bocage of gentle hills, with sunflower fields in summer and Armagnac vineyards throughout.

L'Isle-Jourdain, a sub-prefecture of the Gers, is a bastide founded in 1288 on the banks of the Save. Its medieval market hall and the church of Saint-Martin, adorned with 17th-century frescoes, are worth a visit. The town has good accommodation and a leisure lake. The warm, unhurried Gascon atmosphere begins to assert itself here — a foretaste of the bastide towns that line the rest of the route.
