📖 Stage Description

Arriving in Pau, the Béarnais capital and royal city, is one of the high points of the Via Tolosana. The path climbs to the Boulevard des Pyrénées, a celebrated promenade offering a panorama stretching 150 km across the Pyrenean ridges on a clear day.

The Castle de Pau, birthplace of Henri IV — born in 1553 in this medieval fortress transformed into a Renaissance palace — is the city's centrepiece. The lush parkland surrounding the castle, the elegant arcaded town centre with its café terraces, the Halles de Pau covered market and the views of the Pyrenees together make this an unforgettable stop. Pau has excellent accommodation for pilgrims of every budget.
