The longest and most symbolic of the stages. Leaving Ordes, the path crosses inland Galicia through eucalyptus forests, deep valleys and granite hamlets. Emotion builds with every kilometre as Santiago draws near — start early!

The Tambre river is crossed at Pontemaceira (km 26) on a magnificent seven-arched medieval bridge at the foot of a wooded gorge — one of the most memorable images of the camino. From there the path climbs again before the final descent into the capital of Galicia.

Entering Santiago de Compostela through the old town is a moment of grace. The Praza do Obradoiro opens before you, dominated by the Baroque façade of the cathedral housing the tomb of the apostle Saint James. The Pilgrim Mass, the famous Botafumeiro, the embrace of the golden statue of Santiago… ¡Buen Camino!
