🗺 Stage Map
📖 Stage Description
The most physically demanding stage of the opening stretch, and one of the most beautiful. The path climbs steeply up the flanks of Jaizkibel (543 m), a mountain that plunges directly into the sea. The views over the Bay of Biscay, the French coast and Cap Higuer are breathtaking.
You pass through the Sanctuary of Guadalupe (km 12), a Basque pilgrimage site with a providential bar and accommodation. Then the descent towards Pasaia (Pasajes) — an industrial port but with a charming old town reached by rowing boat — offers a striking contrast.
San Sebastián (Donostia) awaits as your reward: one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, with La Concha beach sweeping in a perfect arc, the old town and its legendary pintxos. The approach from the heights offers an unforgettable panorama.
