📖 Stage Description

The great day. From O Pedrouzo, the path crosses a eucalyptus forest before reaching Lavacolla (km 8) — a stream where, according to medieval tradition, pilgrims would wash themselves (lavare = to wash, colla = neck) before entering Santiago.

Monte do Gozo (Hill of Joy, km 15) is the last high point before Santiago. From there, the towers of the cathedral appear for the first time — a sight that has drawn tears for centuries. Medieval pilgrims would race to the summit to be the first to glimpse the holy city.

The entry into Santiago de Compostela along the Rúa de San Pedro, then the Praza de Cervantes, and finally out onto the Praza do Obradoiro before the cathedral: a moment of intense emotion after weeks of walking from Bayonne — 890 km. Buen Camino.
