📖 Stage Description

This short stage crosses the Lezíria, the vast alluvial floodplain of the Tagus that defines the Ribatejo, with its cornfields, vineyards and fighting bull ranches. The terrain is almost entirely flat — a restful day's walk.

The market town of Carregado makes a natural halfway stop before Azambuja appears on the horizon. The path climbs gently onto the plateau to reach this quiet little town, well known for its local wines.

Azambuja welcomes pilgrims with a well-kept albergue, good restaurants and the unhurried atmosphere of an unspoiled Portuguese rural town.
