📖 Stage Description
Leaving Azambuja, the path climbs onto the wine-growing plateaux of the Ribatejo, a region celebrated for its DOC wines and equestrian traditions. The route crosses white limestone hills blanketed with vines, with wide views over the Tagus valley.
The lively town of Cartaxo, roughly halfway, is renowned for its wines and has everything you need before the final climb to spectacular Santarém.
Nicknamed the "capital of Portuguese Gothic", Santarém crowns a cliff 100 metres above the Tagus. A dozen medieval churches, an exceptional viewpoint and a beautiful old town await the pilgrim.
