📖 Stage Description
There is no hurry this morning. The 19 kilometres can wait — you already know where they end.
The Galician eucalyptus forest smells strong and damp. People often walk in silence, even when they are not alone. At Monte do Gozo, at kilometre 15, the city appears through the Galician mist. And the towers of the cathedral — two baroque silhouettes you have seen in photographs dozens of times — are there, truly there, for the very first time.
Four kilometres remain. They take a long time.
The Plaza del Obradoiro: granite paving stones, facades enclosing the square on all sides, the cathedral directly ahead. After 1,550 kilometres, the pack drops onto the cobblestones. Some people cry. Some laugh. Some simply sit in silence on the steps, watching others arrive.
The Pilgrim Mass takes place every day at noon — attend it if you can. The botafumeiro, the giant incense burner that swings the full width of the nave at dizzying speed, is a sight unlike any other.
Buen Camino.
