📖 Stage Description

From Cloyes-sur-le-Loir, the route follows the Loir valley south-west, crossing the boundary between Eure-et-Loir and Loir-et-Cher. The landscape becomes greener, with orchards, vines and sunflower fields.

The path winds through numerous hamlets and villages, including Fréteval, whose ruined fortress dominates the valley. This is the longest stage of the Paris-Tours segment, crossing a little-known but charming territory.

Arriving at Vendôme is a real reward. The town, threaded by branches of the Loir, is home to the Abbaye de la Trinité, a major medieval pilgrimage site. Its Romanesque bell tower from the 11th century, standing alone on the esplanade, is one of the finest in France.
