Leaving the bustle of Carcassonne behind, the trail rediscovers the quiet of the Lauragais countryside, this agricultural plain known as the bread basket of the Midi. Gentle hills swept by the autan wind unfold in an open landscape where grain silos stand beside pink-brick villages. The Canal du Midi quietly accompanies the westward progress, while the first ridges of the Razès appear ahead towards Fanjeaux for the next stage.
