📖 Stage Description

The path descends gradually from the heights of the Haut-Languedoc toward the Tarn plain. The route passes through several villages on the Tarn side of the watershed before approaching the outskirts of Castres. The landscape opens up, with cereal and sunflower fields replacing the mountain forests.

Castres, the Tarn's second city, is built along the banks of the Agout. Its half-timbered houses reflected in the river, the Goya Museum — one of the richest collections of Spanish art outside Spain — and the Saint-Benoît cathedral make this an important cultural stopover. The Saturday market, one of the liveliest in the region, is not to be missed if you pass through on a weekend.
