📖 Stage Description

The path leaves Castres and climbs toward the Montagne Noire, a forested massif that heralds the Massif central. The route crosses the Sor river and rises steadily through villages and woodland, with backward views over the Tarn plain.

Dourgne is known for its two active Benedictine abbeys: the Abbey of Notre-Dame de Dourgne for the monks and the Abbey of Sainte-Scholastique for the nuns. Monastic life here is intense and the welcome extended to pilgrims is a long-standing tradition. The monks' artisan chocolate is celebrated throughout the region. A spiritually distinctive stage, rooted in the great Benedictine tradition of hospitality to travellers.
