📖 Stage Description

The path descends from the Montagne Noire into the plain of the Lauragais, the natural corridor between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, known as the "breadbasket of the Midi". The landscape gradually opens onto vast expanses of cereal crops and golden sunflowers in summer.

Revel, a royal bastide founded in 1342 by Philippe VI of Valois, retains its 14th-century octagonal market hall, a listed historic monument, and its arcaded central square. The town is renowned for its decorative arts — cabinet-making and marquetry — and its Saturday morning market. The Lac de Saint-Ferréol, the first large dam in Europe (1672), which fed the Canal du Midi, is accessible nearby.
