📖 Stage Description

The stage continues through the Lauragais, between the Canal du Midi and the hills of the Cathar country. The Autan wind — a hot, dry easterly — often accompanies walkers across these open plateaus. Grain silos and agricultural cooperatives punctuate the landscape.

Villefranche-de-Lauragais, a royal bastide of 1280, is a lively town crossed by the Canal du Midi. Its pink-brick medieval market hall, central square and Gothic brick church — the typical building material of the Toulouse plain — speak to a distinctive vernacular architecture. The town marks the start of the "Pays toulousain", the gateway to the approaching Pink City.
