📖 Stage Description

The path approaches Toulouse through the eastern Lauragais. The route follows the Canal du Midi for several kilometres — an enchanting walk beneath the plane trees, at the unhurried pace of passing barges. The canal, built between 1666 and 1681, links the Mediterranean to the Atlantic over 240 km.

Baziège, a commune in the Toulouse suburbs, marks the last stage before the great city. Despite its peri-urban setting it retains an 18th-century castle and a Romanesque church that testify to its medieval past. The Toulouse conurbation is now visible on the horizon, the silhouette of the basilica of Saint-Sernin rising above the pink-brick rooftops.
