📖 Stage Description

The path converges on Auch, prefecture of the Gers and historic capital of Gascony. The route crosses the last plateau before the city, with gradual views opening onto the cathedral that dominates the Baïse plain.

Auch possesses one of the finest Gothic cathedrals in south-west France — Sainte-Marie d'Auch — whose carved wooden choir stalls and 16th-century stained-glass windows by Arnaut de Moles are exceptional. The monumental staircase of 232 steps and the statue of d'Artagnan — the most famous son of the Gers — add to the charm of this city of character. The covered market and Gascon restaurants round off an outstanding stage.
