📖 Stage Description

The path leaves Montpellier and strikes out into the Hérault garrigue, passing through several wine villages with renowned cooperative cellars. The route climbs toward the famous Pont du Diable, an 11th-century Romanesque bridge spanning the Hérault river in its spectacular gorge.

The Hérault gorge and the site of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert — reachable via a short detour — rank among the finest in the region: the UNESCO-listed Gellone abbey, a medieval village perched above the gorge, and one of the great gateways of the Camino de Santiago. Aniane, a lively Languedoc market town, welcomes pilgrims at the end of this stage of discovery through the deep Languedoc countryside.
