📖 Stage Description

The path leaves the vineyards behind and tackles the first foothills of the Larzac, a stark limestone plateau. The route climbs steadily through scrubland and pine forests, with increasingly sweeping views over the Hérault plain. The landscape grows more mineral and wild.

Lodève, an ancient episcopal city founded in Gallo-Roman times, retains a fine Saint-Fulcran cathedral in the Languedoc Gothic style. Built at the confluence of the Lergue and the Soulondres, the town was long renowned for its cloth-making industry and royal manufactories. Its archaeological museum and old quarter are well worth a visit. A transitional stage between the Mediterranean world and the Massif central.
