📖 Stage Description

The path enters the Haut-Languedoc, a preserved forest massif straddling the border of the Hérault and Tarn departments. The route climbs toward the Montagne Noire through landscapes of moorland, conifer forests and granite. The temperature drops noticeably — a welcome relief after the heat of the Mediterranean plain.

The Lac du Salagou, an artificial lake fringed with vivid red clay banks, is visible from certain viewpoints — a Martian landscape at the heart of Languedoc. Lunas, a mountain village on the banks of the Dourdou, marks the gateway to the Parc naturel régional du Haut-Languedoc. Accommodation here is simple but warm, set within scenery of outstanding natural beauty.
