📖 Stage Description

This is the most physically demanding stage of the Camino Inglés from Ferrol. Leaving Betanzos, the path leaves the coastal Galicia behind for good and begins the long climb towards the heights of the Serra da Mela. Total ascent exceeds 800 metres — start early!

The first section crosses granite hamlets and pine forests before reaching the plateau of Mesón do Vento at the halfway point, a historic crossroads on the old royal road. The landscape changes dramatically: bocage gives way to Atlantic heathland — heather, broom and windswept bogland.

Bruma (Hospital de Bruma), at the top of the plateau at 358 metres, marks the boundary between the provinces of A Coruña and Lugo. Its historic albergue, housed in the old medieval pilgrim hospital, has welcomed walkers for centuries — a history-laden rest stop in the heart of wild Galicia.
