📖 Stage Description

This stage crosses the estuary of the río Asón by the Treto ferry — one of the most iconic boat crossings on the Camino Norte. The salt marshes (marismas) of the ría put on a remarkable natural display: flamingos in winter, egrets and herons year-round.

Beyond Colindres and Limpias, the path climbs into the Cantabrian hills, leaving the coast behind. The landscape softens — rolling meadows, curly-haired cattle, quiet hamlets.

Güemes is legendary for its albergue run by Father Ernesto Bustio: a warm welcome, a communal evening meal, and the spirit of a genuine pilgrim community. A place that rewards the effort of reaching it.
