📖 Stage Description
The longest stage on the camino — nearly 38 km! From Santander, the path first threads through the outskirts of the capital before climbing into the verdant hills of deep Cantabria: beaches, cattle meadows and hamlets built in pale limestone.
The route passes near Suances and the lovely Concha de Oyambre beach. Here the Cantabrian coast reveals its gentler face — fewer sheer cliffs, more crescent-shaped bays and grassy dunes.
Santillana del Mar is one of the most beautiful medieval villages in Spain — perhaps in all of Europe. Its cobbled streets, Renaissance palaces and Romanesque-Gothic collegiate church form an ensemble preserved intact since the Middle Ages. And the Altamira cave — with its 17,000-year-old rock paintings — is just 2 km away.
