📖 Stage Description
A short stage to one of the gems of the Camino Norte: Luarca, nicknamed the villa blanca for its whitewashed walls and the beauty of its setting. The harbour nestles at the foot of a deep cove, ringed by white limestone cliffs.
The path descends to Luarca from the heights, offering a postcard view over the port, the colourful fishing boats, the lighthouse and the white chapels on the headlands. It is one of the most beautiful stage arrivals on the entire camino.
Luarca is also the birthplace of Nobel Prize winner Severo Ochoa. Its clifftop maritime cemetery (camposanto), clinging above the port, is a poetic and melancholy spot not to be missed.
