📖 Stage Description
A long and varied stage crossing the industrial and residential heart of the Bilbao suburbs. The green Basque Country gradually gives way to a metropolis that has brilliantly reinvented itself since the deindustrialisation of the 1980s.
The route passes through Lezama and Larrabetzu, still-green residential towns, before dropping into the Nervión valley. The crossing of Bilbao's outskirts is lengthy — asphalt and residential zones — but the arrival makes it worthwhile.
Bilbao is a city of magnificent contrasts: Gehry's Guggenheim museum, the medieval Casco Viejo with its seven streets, the covered Ribera market, and the pintxos of the Indautxu quarter. A major city stage on the camino.
