📖 Stage Description
Leaving Bilbao through the left-bank neighbourhoods of the Nervión is an experience in itself. The path follows the former industrial zone, now repurposed, past Getxo with its early 20th-century bourgeois villas, and then through Algorta with its old harbour.
The sea comes back into view. The cliffs of the Costa Vasca open up again, bringing with them the wind, the gulls and the vastness of the Atlantic. The path alternates between cliff-tops and inland valleys.
Pobeña is a small village at the foot of the Cantabrian cliffs, marking the entry into the province of Cantabria. The wild beach of La Arena — fine sand framed by cliffs — is a welcome reward.
