📖 Stage Description

Leaving the forests of Ile-de-France, the stage ventures onto the Beauce, a vast cereal plateau. The contrast is striking: after shaded woodland paths, the landscape opens up to an immense sky and wheat fields stretching to the horizon.

Heading south-west, the iconic silhouette of Chartres Cathedral gradually comes into view from several kilometres away. This vision, which medieval pilgrims called the "mountain of Chartres", accompanies the walker all the way in.

Arrival at Chartres is a highlight of the pilgrimage. Notre-Dame Cathedral, a Gothic masterpiece and major Marian shrine, has welcomed pilgrims since the 12th century. Do not miss the ambulatory and the stained-glass windows, among the finest in the world.
