📖 Stage Description

Châtellerault marks the start of stage 5 of the Via Turonensis. The limestone Poitou stretches between agricultural plains and river valleys. The Romanesque heritage is everywhere — bell towers, sculpted facades, baptisteries. One of the richest regions for Romanesque art in France.

Between Châtellerault and Poitiers, tuffeau stone villages follow one another. Dissay conceals a surprising episcopal castle covered in Renaissance frescoes. The route follows dirt paths and minor roads through a typical landscape of Vienne, alternating forest paths and village crossings.
