📖 Stage Description

Poitiers marks the start of stage 7 of the Via Turonensis. The limestone Poitou stretches between agricultural plains and river valleys. The Romanesque heritage is everywhere — bell towers, sculpted facades, baptisteries. One of the richest regions for Romanesque art in France.

A short but history-laden stage. The Ligugé Abbey, founded in 361 by Saint Martin, is the oldest abbey in France still inhabited. The route follows dirt paths and minor roads through a typical landscape of Vienne, alternating forest paths and village crossings.

Arrival at Ligugé concludes this stage of 14,2 km with a positive elevation gain of 216 m — a Moderate stage, accessible to the majority of walkers. All practical information for the overnight stop is available in the sidebar.
