Descending from Fanjeaux, the trail enters the Ariège and the Pays d’Olmes, crossing the Bélesta forest with its centuries-old oaks. The arrival at Mirepoix reveals one of the finest medieval bastides in the Midi-Pyrénées. Its arcaded timber galleries, including the 14th-century Maison des Consuls, form a remarkable architectural ensemble around the central square. The Cathedral of Saint-Maurice houses the third widest Gothic nave in France.
